A heavy workload, young children, sleepless nights, and even the general daily stresses of life can create tired eyes that look older than their years. Fortunately, under eye fillers can help us get rid of those pesky deep dark circles and bags for a more relaxed and youthful appearance.

First, why do dark circles and pits under the eyes occur?

Since the epidermal (skin) area around the eyes is very thin, this area is more vulnerable to any internal and external stressors. The most common symptoms we see from these factors are puffy bags, dark circles, and hollow eye sockets. All of these can make you look bigger than you are!

Eye fatigue can be caused by various factors, including:

Genetics – A predisposition to medical conditions such as thyroid disease, or hyperpigmentation, can increase your dark circles under the eyes.
Fatigue – Lack of sleep can cause fluid to build up under the eyes and make the eyes look puffy.
Dehydration – Without an adequate amount of water (at least 50 to 80 ounces per day), the skin under your eyes can sink into the bone.
Lifestyle – smoking and drinking a lot of alcohol causes the oxygen in the blood vessels to be limited and causes the capillaries around the eyes to darken and break.
Age – The loss of fat and collagen makes the dark blood vessels under your skin more visible, causing blue and gray dullness.
Allergies – When you have an allergic reaction, your body releases histamine, which causes your blood vessels to dilate and become more visible under your skin. Rubbing and itching eyes can also cause irritation!
Bone loss – A “hollow” appearance is the result of age-related bone loss around the eyeball (known as the periocular area).

Is dark circles around the eyes permanent if left untreated?

For some people, dark circles under the eyes are temporary and can be treated with much needed rest and relaxation. But for most people, especially those over 30 and those who have always struggled with under-eye bags, tired eyes never go away. This is where cosmetic treatments like under eye injections can help people look younger.

HOW TO FIX TIRED EYES WITH UNDER EYE FILLERS

What beauty problems do under eye fillers help to solve?

Under eye fillers directly target beauty flaws and promote a healthy, relaxed and youthful appearance. Some of the main reasons for receiving this injection by patients are:

Dark circles in the tear troughs (grooves between the lower eyelid and cheek)
Sunken eye sockets
Composition of bags under the eyes

Is injection under the eyes considered a filler?

Yes, under eye injections are technically in the realm of facial fillers. This means we use FDA approved injectables such as Restylane and Juvederm. These fillers add volume to wrinkles in areas of the face that have lost fat and collagen, which is the main cause of tired eyes and dark circles caused by aging.

How are under-eye fillers different from other injections and beauty treatments?

The difference between other facial fillers (such as jawline enhancement and lip injections) is the injection site. Here at our Newport Beach facility, a qualified injector will inject Restylane-L or Juvederm Volbella XC into the lacrimal area (ie the under eye area) as well as the outer eye area. It gives the best and most natural result because it directly targets the skin around the eyes that has lost its elasticity and drooped.

Please note that under eye fillers are in no way related to Botox. Botox is a muscle relaxant.

What are the step-by-step procedures for under-eye fillers?

Mark the injection site
The first step before injecting any filler is to discuss your facial outline and mark to label the desired eye areas. We have found that this makes it easier for the patient to know the areas of the final appearance.

Anesthetize the injection areas
Since the eye area is very thin and the face is a sensitive area, we apply numbing cream to the designated areas. This usually takes a few minutes to activate and then we are ready to inject.

Injection under the eye
As we begin the injection, you should feel the area gradually begin to thicken. Don’t be surprised if we press the injection gently, which shouldn’t hurt, to spread the filler into place under the skin.

Will I get bruises with under eye injections?

Fortunately for our patients, with the technique we use to inject filler under the eyes, there is zero bruising! We use a blunt tip cannula to perform under eye fillers, which eliminates the need for any needles and causes bleeding, bruising, and other side effects. This technique allows you to enjoy your results instantly without any downtime!
Are under-eye fillers only for women? Or can men use the treatment to help get rid of dark circles around the eyes?
Tired eyes are not only women’s problems! A critical component to successful undereye filler treatment, regardless of gender, is understanding the precise relationships of facial bones, ligaments, muscles, and facial fat pads. Men are safe to treat their dark circles and puffy bags – and they always welcome under-eye fillers at our clinic.

When will I see a significant improvement in the bags under my eyes after the injection?

Immediately after injection! We will follow up with you 2 weeks post-op to make sure the filler has settled in nicely and touch up if needed!

How often will I need to get under eye fillers for lasting results?

Under eye injections provide a youthful, restorative look that usually lasts up to 1 year. The good news is that hyaluronic acid fillers—like Restylane and Juvederm—also stimulate collagen synthesis by pushing fibroblasts (cells responsible for collagen production) in the skin. Over time, this will stimulate your body to produce collagen on its own, promoting a younger, more natural appearance. Yes!
What are some at-home skin care solutions that can help with eye strain in between under eye filler treatments?
Here at Beauty Boost, we’re all about self-care in between treatments! This helps extend the life of under eye fillers and also reduces stress that may increase symptoms such as dark circles.

Remember, home remedies to reduce dark circles may help somewhat, but they won’t solve the problem long-term and may not work for everyone.

Some home remedies include:

Jade roller
Cucumber or soaked tea bag
make up
High quality eye cream such as ZO Brightening Eye Cream
